AutoPTT
Voice Chat Support in Games
While you can expect most online multiplayer games to have built-in voice chat, you can’t rely on your chosen method of voice communication to be available.
Push-to-Talk is both easy for developers to implement and for players to set up and use. Just press the key, say what you want to say, and release the key. It’s no surprise it’s usually the default option.
However, for whatever reason, some developers opt for Open Mic. Maybe it’s the default – or only – option. Hopefully they’ve at least added a mic sensitivity slider so that it’s not literally always on. (This is often called Voice Activation.)
A mic sensitivity slider is a bit more work to implement though, so it’s best not to rely on that either. The developers may have added a Toggle Mute instead, which can work quite well, as long as the player remembers to use it.
Push-to-Mute is also an option, but it’s by far the rarest one, and pretty much requires good mic sensitivity settings. (Though that is recommended for Toggle Mute as well.)
A handful of games may also require a Push-to-Talk key press to come from a physical keyboard, meaning that you can’t press it via a macro, script or remapping, because they usually generate virtual input that can easily be distinguished from physical input (and then ignored).
Below, you can find a list of games and what types of voice chat they support on PC.
